Midwifery Services

What to Expect

Every client is unique, so I offer a variety of midwifery services personalized for each childbearing experience. Regardless of what you choose, we will dive into your beliefs, expectations, and knowledge around pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. Together, we will explore your physical and emotional well-being to ensure you feel confident and safe throughout your midwifery care experience.

Prenatal Care

  • An initial prenatal visit around 12 weeks, complete health history, discuss in more detail what to expect, and get to hear babes heartbeat - often for the first time!

  • Regular prenatal visits lasting 45-60 mins. I'll see you every 4 weeks until 30-32 weeks, every 2 weeks until you're 36 weeks, then weekly until you birth your baby.

  • An in-home prenatal visit between 34-36 weeks with your whole birth team.

  • Assessment, education, and counseling related to physical and emotional well-being of client-baby dyad.

  • Informed choices and decision making regarding your course of care.

  • Referrals to specialists and community resources as needed and requested.

  • Easy access to contact me with questions or concerns via phone/email.

In-Home Labor/Birth/Immediate Postpartum Care

  • As you approach your estimated due date, you will have 24/7 access to contact me via phone.

  • Monitoring of you and baby during active labor, checking vitals, and listening to baby's heart tones.

  • Involvement of partner, children, and other members of your birth team as you desire.

  • Physical and emotional labor/birth support.

  • Hydrotherapy/water birth options available.

  • Conscientious care during the immediate postpartum period including: complete newborn exam, breastfeeding support, and emphasis on immediate skin-to-skin to facilitate attachment and bonding.

  • Second Midwife attendant and/or birth assistant for added support and extra skilled hands.

  • In the event of a transfer to the hospital, I will remain with you as a support person (dependent on current COVID protocols and hospital policies).

Postpartum/Well-Newborn Care

  • In-home postpartum care visits on day 1, day 3, and 1 week. Postpartum care visits in the office at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 6 weeks. Pediatrician visit recommended by 3 weeks postpartum.

  • Monitoring of emotional and physical recovery and well-being of you and baby. Connection to appropriate resources, and referrals to appropriate specialists as needed.

  • Lactation support and newborn weight checks.

  • Newborn screening performed in-home (includes: metabolic screening, hearing screening, CCHD screening).

  • Completed birth record submission to obtain baby's birth certificate and social security number.

Fees for Midwifery Services

The basic package fee for midwifery care is $5,000.

  • $500 of the fee is required as a non-refundable down payment at the initial visit to begin care.

  • This fee includes: Prenatal visits (monthly until 28-30 weeks, then biweekly until 36 weeks, then weekly until birth or as often as necessary for optimal individual care), at least 1 prenatal home visit between 34-36 weeks, on-call services, labor/birth support, at least two hours of immediate postpartum care, basic lactation and breastfeeding support, and 4-6 postpartum visits.

    • This fee also includes the following should you choose or need: use of lending library, 2nd midwife attendant/birth assistant/student, suturing for laceration repair up to 2nd degree, emergent medications for management of postpartum hemorrhage, urinalysis dipstick as indicated, routine hemoglobin/hematocrit checks, newborn hearing screen, and newborn screen for critical congenital heart disease (CCHD).

  • The care package does not include: any lab work/testing, birth kit, newborn screening (metabolic), any referred services (e.g. ultrasound, biophysical profile, lactation consultant, etc.), any required prescription medications (e.g. Rhogam, antibiotics for GBS, etc.), suggested/recommended supplements, any chosen medication or supplements for your baby (Vitamin K, Erythromycin, Hepatitis B Vaccine), or doula(s) you choose to have at your birth.

Payment Plans

I accept cash, checks, direct PayPal transfers, Venmo, Zelle, and credit/debit cards using PayPal card processing services. There is a $100 discount offered to clients that pay with cash/checks, or direct transfers (PayPal/Venmo/Zelle) – Discount is applied to final payment if/when all requirements are met. At the first prenatal visit, I like to work out a payment plan outlining the total price to be paid and a schedule of payments. All payments must be received by 36 weeks unless an alternative agreement is arranged.

Insurance

Currently, insurance companies are not required to cover midwifery care provided by an out-of-hospital midwife. If you have insurance and would like to attempt insurance reimbursement for your midwifery care costs, I will complete a superbill or itemized bill at the end of your care to submit to your insurance company. You must be paid in full for me to complete a superbill/itemized bill. Be aware, health insurance reimbursement is not a guarantee, and Medicaid WILL NOT offer reimbursement.
